  1. Thanks to everyone who performed at Rempstone, there were some awesome performances over the weekend, and the piping wasn't bad either!

Many congratulations to our dancer Laura Smith who competed at the England National Highland Dancing competition in Corby on Sunday and was crowned overall champion in the beginners category. This amazing acheivment not only makes Laura the national champion in her category but also gains her promotion to the next group. Well done!!!!

  2. Newark Castle- July 3rd 2011

Thanks to all band members who attended the fantastic joint performance with the Ashby Concert Band on Sunday at Newark Castle.

The backdrop was stunning and the performances were of an excellent standard, despite the heat.

The audience were very appreciative and we have had lots of very positive feedback-a great build up to the concert in October.

Thanks to Janet Mortensen for the photo!

  3. The band has just completed two busy weekends of parading in our home city of Leicester.

On June 19th we were honoured to lead a parade of Leicestershire Regiment veterans from the Cathedral to celebrate Tigers Day.

The following Saturday, June 25th was Armed Forces Day and on this occasion the band lead a parade of over three hundred veterans, cadets and reserve forces on a longer route. The parade ended in Town Hall Square, where the Lord Lieutenant, Lady Gretton, took the salute.

I'm pleased to say that the band took both high profile events in their stride, the drill and standard of music being much commented on by the parade and public. The many hours of practice have defintely paid off and you should all be very proud.

A special mention to our three young tenor drummers, Lottie, (12), Will, (10) and Callum, (8) who were all turning out for the first time on tenor, and to our new Drum Major, Bruce, who carried out his duties faultlessly.

  4. Following a successful trial I am delighted to invite all experienced musicians to an additional practice on Fridays at Birstall Social Club at 7.30pm. This session will give invaluable extra playing time in the build up to our summer season.

This week has also seen the launch of our new Facebook page, (see home page for a link), and the very welcome return of Bruce Meadows in his new role as band Drum Major.

  5. Thanks to all the band who attended a joint practice with the Ashby Concert Band last night.

The tunes for our anniversary concert are coming on really well, they will sound awesome by October! Don't forget to book your tickets early to ensure the best seats.
