Sadly, in September 2008, the Leicester branch of the Seaforth Highlanders Regimental Association was forced to close after the passing of most of it's members. However the re-titled Seaforth Highlanders Pipes & Drums, Leicester have been granted permission to retain their name and to carry the branch colours in perpetuity. In this way the Seaforth's legacy and connections to Leicestershire will always be remembered.
As a band we perform at an infinite variety of events and venues, from weddings and funerals to Burns nights, music festivals, parades, corporate events and carnivals. We frequently perform overseas.
The Seaforth Highlanders Regimental Association Pipes & Drums have been bringing a taste of the Highlands to the people of Leicestershire and beyond since 1961, making us the county's longest established Pipe Band.
Men who had served with the Seaforth Highlanders formed their Regimental Association here in Leicester and then raised a band to honour the regiment and to further the pursuit of the highland arts, namely piping, drumming and highland dancing.
Despite the Seaforth Highlanders having been thrice amalgamated, in 1961,1994, and again in 2006 we still retain many traditional elements of Regimental uniform including our Modern Mackenzie kilts and the recurring stags head badge with its Gaelic motto,"Cuidich n' Righ", meaning, "Help the King".
The regiment recriuted widely in our county after suffering huge losses during both world wars. Those who fell are remembered with a memorial and roll of honour, both housed at St. Stephens United Reformed Church, De Montfort Street, Leicester. Our association with the church continues to the present day.
To fulfil our clients requirements we can perform as a full band or mini band, provide solo musicians or highland dancers. The band is entirely self funding and all monies raised from our performance fees are ploughed back into the band to purchase uniforms, instruments and other equipment. We also perform annually at a number of events free of charge to support other charities, with particular preference given to ex-service organisations.
To last as a band for over 40 years and through many trials and tribulations is a huge achievement. The longevity of our band probably lies in its willingness to modernise and embrace change whilst adhering to it's original precepts. We also remain exceedingly proud of our regimental history which, stretching back to 1778, gives us a unique place amongst civilian pipe bands.
We warmly welcome all enquiries, whether you would like to book the band, join our ranks or simply learn more about us. See our contact us page, we look forward to hearing from you!
